Now, I would like to touch upon a few other things in connection with how students

should explain things in a real English conversation before finishing this topic.

The first one is what the daughter of my student who is studying in the USA said

when she came home during this summer holiday.

According to her, many American students are making fun of Japanese students

asking, "How are you (today)?"

And when they get the answer, they laugh at the Japanese behind their backs

because the answer is almost always the same "I'm fine, thank you.  And you?".

Needless to say, this is the result of learning 'English conversation' in a memoriz-

ation-and-recitation method.

How do you think American students will react if they get "Please guess." as an

answer for it?
